Early Detection With
Bone Density Check
A bone density test checks bone strength to detect osteoporosis and fracture risk early. It’s quick, painless, uses very low radiation, and provides accurate, reliable results.
What Is a Bone Density Test?
A bone density or DEXA (dual emission x-ray absorptiometry) test measures how strong and dense your bones are. It is usually done on the spine and hip, and the forearm may be scanned when these areas cannot be checked — such as in patients with metal rods or a hip replacement. With age, bones lose calcium and become thinner and weaker, increasing the risk of osteoporosis and fractures.
A bone density / DEXA test:
- Screens for osteoporosis and bone thinning
- Assesses fracture risk as bones weaken with age
- Helps doctors decide if treatment or medicines are needed
- Monitors patients on Calcium & Vitamin D supplements
- Allows physicians to track progress and adjust care
- Evaluates the spine, hip, and forearm when required
Bone density testing helps detect bone loss early and supports timely treatment to reduce fracture risk.
Check Your Bone Health with DEXA
A safe, proactive, and painless way to measure bone strength, detect osteoporosis early, and assess fracture risk.
What Is a Bone Density (DEXA) Test?
A Bone Density or DEXA Scan uses low-dose X-rays to measure the calcium and mineral content in your bones to determine how strong and dense they are. It is usually done on the hip and spine, and the forearm may be scanned when these areas cannot be evaluated, such as in patients with implants or previous surgery. Higher mineral content means denser, stronger bones with a lower chance of fractures. Unlike earlier times when osteoporosis was diagnosed only after a fracture, regular DEXA screening helps detect bone loss early, improves fracture-risk prediction, and guides preventive care. A DEXA test is different from a bone scan, which requires an injection and is used to detect cancer, infections, fractures, and other bone abnormalities.
Who Should Have a Bone Density Test?
A Bone Density Test is recommended for post-menopausal women, older adults, men with age-related bone loss, and anyone with risk factors such as previous fractures, long-term steroid use, or medical treatments that affect hormone levels. Doctors may also suggest testing for people with height loss from possible spine compression fractures, those who have experienced fragility fractures, or patients who have had organ or bone marrow transplants and are on anti-rejection medicines that weaken bones. The test is also used to monitor people already on osteoporosis treatment or taking Calcium and Vitamin D supplements, helping caregivers track progress and adjust care when needed.
Why Is a Bone Density Test Done?
A Bone Density Test helps identify bone loss before fractures occur, assess future fracture risk, confirm or rule out osteoporosis, and monitor how well treatment is working. A proactive, bi-yearly DEXA screening approach — especially for seniors and high-risk individuals — enables early detection of bone weakening so caregivers can intervene sooner, reduce the risk of severe osteoporosis or fractures, and support long-term bone health and preventive care planning.
